“Digital cultures explored at 17th Chinese Internet Research Conference, a first Singapore-Australia tie-up”
24 June 2019, Monday, Singapore. The 17th edition of the Chinese Internet Research Conference will be held in two weeks’ time on Friday, 28 June 2019. Co-organized by National University of Singapore & Murdoch University, Singapore, this year’s conference theme is “Digital Cultures: Chinese Internet and Beyond”.
The Chinese Internet Research Conference (CIRC) was first convened in 2003, at the University of Southern California, and is held annually since. CIRC develops a community of scholars and research on the development, uses, and impact of the Internet, and associated new media technologies in the Chinese world.
This year will see a packed programme of 8 sessions featuring 40 research papers presented, and moderated by eminent and emerging scholars from China, Australia, USA, Singapore and Malaysia.
“We are heartened that there is such strong interest in the burgeoning, inter-disciplinary field of Chinese internet research. This year’s papers touch on so many aspects of digital cultures in China.” said key CIRC2019 organiser, Associate Professor Zhang Weiyu, Department Deputy Head (Communications and New Media), National University of Singapore.
Dr Tania Lim, Singapore Discipline Lead, Murdoch University, Singapore Office and co-organiser for CIRC2019 said: “Murdoch and SCRIPT are really delighted to co-host this 17th edition of CIRC in Singapore, with our research partner, National University of Singapore for the first time.” Added co-organiser Associate Professor Terence Lee, Murdoch University: “I expect to see plenty of surprises during CIRC as digital content and services expanding in the global cyberspace, new digital cultures are critically examined and explored through the CIRC.”
